The Edge Mandate
The intelligence has to run where the data is born.
Central cloud cannot close a real-time loop at a site a thousand kilometres away. But shipping that site to a foreign edge region trades latency for lost sovereignty.
Factories, substations, ports and control rooms generate sensor, telemetry and video streams that are too large to ship, too fast for a round trip to a distant region, and too sensitive to leave your border. The answer is not a foreign edge zone. It is the same sovereign cloud, extended to every site, reasoning locally, governed centrally, with zero records leaving your borders.
Latency has a floor
A round trip to a central region cannot serve a real-time control loop. Inference has to run at the site, next to the sensors that feed it.
The link is not guaranteed
Remote sites lose connectivity. Edge nodes must keep reasoning through a severed link and reconcile state with the core when it returns.
Data has gravity
Video and telemetry streams are too heavy and too sensitive to move. Process them at the source and keep the raw feed on home ground.
A foreign edge is still foreign
A foreign edge region sits under another jurisdiction. The sovereign perimeter has to reach the site, not stop at the data center door.
